When satarists go for Beserk

Once and a while a clever satirist does something truely briliant that shakes up the abridged series affictionados from the newbies to the vets. Little Kuriboh's rap challenge certainly did this but recently another well accomplished parody artist set off a torrent of videos that I think brought some humbleness back into the hobby of abridging cartoons. That guy is hbi2k and he's but a humble man but he's also a genius.

All it took was for him to offer up his original Beserk DVD collection to the winner of a contest for people to sit up and pay attention but I honestly believe he didn't even need to offer a prize because if he or any other well known and well respective parody creator were to have done the contest without a prize up for grabs it still probably would have gotten a decent turn out of contestants. I might be wrong about that but regardless he single handedly inspired satarists both new and old to make a silly video for lulz in less than a week. As much as I prefer an abridged series episode with a decent level of effort put into it I also feel like the standards have gotten a little to high for this to be a humble hobby anymore (if it ever was one).

Now don't get me wrong, there's a lot of crap that showed up on YouTube due to this contest but there's also some really entertaining simple videos with a lot of creativity to them. Furthermore this contest managed to get some abridged series creators out of their creative funks and they ended up making great videos. Most notably cheesemanjoe with his Guin Saga parody. I had never seen that series before and yet I thoroughly enjoyed the parody. The wit was sharp, it was well paced and it wasn't too long either. On a slightly different page we got some very clever videos from other vets who weren't in a funk which truely show the kind of humor they're capable of. Along those lines Juu-kuuchi's Gummi Bears parody comes to mind. Gummi Bears crossed with drug wars? Sure didn't see that one coming.

ToonLord and Zeromaster both entered some rather amusing parodies of series I've never seen before but now am a bit interested in seeing and there was a show of good form from Sehanort with his high energy Godannar parody. That's just the tip of the iceburg however and there's more to come no doubt. So far this contest has brought forth a lot of creativity and for that I must applaud hbi2k. Like the Child's Play benefit before it, he really has a knack for getting parodists inspired to make fun videos and do it for all the right reasons.
